Azel’s lineart tutorial

This post originally appeared for free on my Patreon, posting it here as well as an archive.

We did an impromptu tutorial on stream recently. Here's some insight into how I go about doing my lineart. Video linked above and also attached below, also included JPGs of the example I show in the video.

Big takeaways-

  • Use a color besides black for lineart- I typically use a dark red, dark blue, or dark purple.

  • Work from "fat pen" to "thin pen"

  • Break your drawing down into large, most important lines (fat pen), medium details/medium pen (most of your drawing will be this), and small details (thin pen).

  • Identify areas of the darkest shadow and use your thick lineart pen to fill these areas.

  • As much as you're able to, avoid zooming in!

  • Remember- thicker lines appear "closer" to the viewer, use this to your advantage.

We don't gatekeep- I didn't make my brushes, I bought em online! The brushes I like to use are linked here on my website- https://azeldraws.com/faq
